Interesting what a week of poor sleep, a day of moving and a glass of wine on an empty stomach does to my motor skills.. since settling into my new home a few hours ago, I've managed to: slip and fall on my face in the shower (creating a nice "goose egg" above my left brow), shatter a full glass of wine on the kitchen floor, and then proceed to spill the new glass I poured myself on to my new roommate's couch.. haha smooth first impression
but on a positive note, the noise and clutter of downtown has been replaced by a quiet, clean and peaceful neighborhood. I'm happy to be far from the center of the city, 25 floors closer to earth - away from constant light and noise, midnight screams in the ally and the 3 am Fritz Fries rush only a block away. Feels nice : )
"Things outside you are projections of what's inside you, and what's inside you is a projection of what's outside. So when you step into the labyrinth outside you, at the same time you're stepping into the labyrinth inside."

-Haruki Murakami (Kafka on the Shore)

'When you're down in a well, talking to somebody at the top, something weird happens to the sound: you can't really catch the expression in the other person's voice. But finally, it's not a question of which is right. I mean, reality is made up of these different layers. So maybe in that reality you were serious about trying to kill me, but in this reality you weren't. It depends on which reality you take and which reality I take.'

-passage from The Wind-up Bird Chronicle, Haruki Murakami

Incredible.

Last weekend I checked out the Bodyworlds exhibit at Science World. Although originally hesitant to go because of the fairly steep entry fee of $26.. it was totally worth it.

Seeing the raw biological features of the human body and the written truth of how each system works together to function properly was pretty scary, yet totally fascinating. I mean it was a bit morbid, but I think the exhibit is a really great way to teach anatomy - especially for people who are visual learners like myself. The Vancouver showing continues until January 9, 2011..

"Optimism is a strategy for making a better future. Because unless you believe that the future can be better, it's unlikely you will step up and take responsibility for making it so. If you assume that there's no hope, you guarantee that there will be no hope. If you assume that there is an instinct for freedom, there are opportunities to change things..."
